Hyderabad: With an idea to replace plastic bottle with eco-friendly box, city-based startup Caro Water is delivering safe drinking water in carton boxes that can be recycled easily. These water boxes come with a built-in tap to dispense the contentusing BIB (Bag in a Box) technology and zero-leakage. Two techies from the city started India's first water box service last summer.
Quitting the jobs in IT industry, Suneeth Tatineni and Chaitanya Ayinapudi founded this eco-friendly startup in March 2021 to develop water packaging boxes with an aim to cut the usage of plastic bottles and cans. They realised that only 10 per cent of water bottles are recycled in the world, while the remaining 90 per cent wind up in landfill or littered in environment.
They claim that the water box uses 85 per cent less plastic than regular water bottles. These water boxes are available in 5 litre, 10 litre and 20 litre sizes. The customers are rewarded with cash back offers for returning the empty boxes, which are recycled multiple times.
These water boxes are portable and convenient to carry during journeys and small trips.
"We are not only saving the environment from the plastic pollution, but also providing safe drinking water to thousands of households in western part of the city.Currently, we are selling around 8,000 water boxes (20 litre) per day in the city. This summer, we will be delivering water boxes across the city. We are also planning to set up operations in Bengaluru next month," Suneeth told Bizz Buzz.
He further said that the company is looking for an investment of around Rs10 crore in the initial funding round for immediate expansion plans. It has a filtration and reverse osmosis (RO) facility at Bachupally here with a huge capacity of 10,000 litre per hour. It also adds minerals that get lost during the filtration process. It has partnered with approved third-party recycling units.
